John Wiebe started beekeeping as a hobby in 2024. He kept 5 to 30 hives in his back yard for the first six years.
Suzanne was a part time beekeeper, helping out when John needed help.
Harvesting Honey is a family affair. It was a fun time for us to get together, share some work and a good meal with kids and grandchildren.
As John’s skill improved so did his dedication to provide his bees with the best he could. This evolution in his beekeeper journey wasn’t something planned. As John and Suzanne learned more, their success increased.
Suzanne started to blog their journey and share some of the information that was difficult for her to find in the early years. Then, Suzanne caught the ‘Queen Bee Grafting’ bug.
in late 2023 We attended our first OBA Conference. This was a game changer for us as we found new mentors and expanded our horizons.
2023 was also the year we felt confident enough to contact the provincial inspector. It was a nerve wracking winter, waiting for our hives to be inspected.
In 2024, with 10 years experience, and an excellent inspection we felt confident to take the next step and make the transition to commercial beekeepers.
